About Us

The nursery has been open since 2000 and has operated as Twinkle Tots until the present owner - Jackie Howse took over in June 2017 and is now known as Coppice Childcare - Shard End.  Jackie has been in the childcare business since 2004 and holds a B.A. (Honours) in Early Years Education as well as a wealth of other qualifications and experience and which has provided her with the knowledge and experience to open up high quality childcare settings that have grown and expanded and which now enjoy an excellent reputation in the communities they are situated.  Coppice Childcare - Shard End is the newest nursery to join our group of 3 nurseries/Out of School Clubs.

Our ethos is very much centered around calm, caring environments with a family friendly atmosphere where we work together in partnership with parents so that all children whatever race, religion or culture are made to feel welcome.

Our nurseries are designed to suit the needs of young children;

  • Bright rooms that are decorated in calm colours that promote a positive learning environment.
  • All our nurseries are furnished with high quality furniture and resources.
  • A variety of age appropriate toys.  We like children to enjoy a variety of textures in their play and have a lot of natural resources.
  • Secure access systems throughout.  Coppice Childcare - Shard End has CCTV  in every Play Room.
  • Benefits of an outdoor space offering age appropriate equipment.
  • Outdoor stimulating features, sensory play areas, water features, sandpits, wildlife areas and playhouses.

Management and staff have regular meetings and training to ensure that we develop and delivery high level childcare and curriculum which is inline with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Foundation Phase and Statutory Guidance.

Play equipment

A range of play equipment is available to help children develop an array of skills, and we choose resources and  materials that will create an inspiring sensory experience. As well as toys, we use;

  • Real life props such as real saucepans in the home corner wooden spoons, brushes etc.
  • Small-world toys to help build a child's imagination and language skills
  • Construction play such as building blocks, to help children develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness and problem solving
  • Physical play equipment such as tricycles, balancing beams and tunnels to encourage physical activity
  • Creative play to build a child’s imagination, creativity and co-ordination
  • Supporting social interaction, including role play, den making, and small group activities

Key Person

A friendly atmosphere is created within our nursery environments, based on warm and caring relationships between our nursery staff and the children in their care. Babies are encouraged to communicate, and their attempts at conversation are valued to ensure they receive an affirming experience, encouraging development, confidence and security. Our nursery staff all act as role models within the setting, and recognise that children lead by example and are constantly learning through observation. Common courtesy, mutual respect and patience are demonstrated at all times throughout our settings.

Your child is allocated a 'Key Person' within their room, who is responsible for your child's well being, ensuring your child feels individual, secure and cherished while they are away from home. Your child’s Key Person will liaise with you at the end of each day, keeping you informed of your child’s experiences at nursery and ensuring you don’t have to miss out on any aspect of your child's day.

Nursery staff carry out regular observations of every child in our care, ensuring your child’s learning and development incorporates their interests and needs. These observations cover all areas of learning according to the framework, as well as records of special moments, like kindness towards others or eating something for the first time, and spontaneous moments, which captures your child’s response to certain activities or events as they happen. All of your child's experiences at nursery are recorded in their unique Learning Journal, enabling you to look over your child’s time at nursery for years to come.

 Little Robins Day Nursery, Hall Green - offering full day care.

 Coppice Care Club and Pre-School Ltd - offering children aged 2.5 years to 11 years Before/After School Care, a Holiday Club, Wrap around Care and a Pre-School.
